Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
